Gaucho, Cardiff

Gaucho opened its first Argentinian restaurant in London in 1994, taking inspiration from Argentina with a vision of bringing the world’s best steak to the UK. With locations in major cities across the UK, they are the go-to destination for a special occasion or a luxurious night out.

Since then, in collaboration with DesignLSM, the brand has been given a fresh concept - steering away from the masculine black and white cow hide that it had become renowned for, delivering a softer, more feminine touch to appeal to a wider audience, as well as creating a stronger daytime offering.

Fileturn was commissioned to convert a former retail unit in Cardiff into a new Gaucho restaurant delivering DesignLSM’s creative vision. The new restaurant, which is over two floors, included a complete strip-out, new joinery items, new M&E, new finishes including a clayworks feature wall of a dramatic mountain scape.

On the ground floor there is a dining space for 110 guests and a bar, and upstairs further seating for 76 guests as well as a terrace area. A moveable wall was built between the two private dining rooms giving flexibility to the space so it can be used for one large party or two smaller ones.

With Fileturn’s high-quality finish and attention to detail, the new restaurant illustrates vibrancy, elegance and a passion for Argentina’s rich cultural heritage.
